Senate Resolution No. 3219
 
BY: Senator JORDAN
 
        COMMENDING  Nathan J. Snyder posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Nathan J.
Snyder posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an  individual  by  the
New  York  State Senate to be presented at the Rensselaer County Honor a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Tuesday, October 13, 2020; and
 
  WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established  by
Resolution  and  is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf  of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  son  of  Linda  (Brett) Fryer and Timothy Snyder, and
stepson of Nicole Cassino, Nathan James Snyder was born on February  20,
1995, in Troy, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  After  graduating  from  Averill Park High School in 2013,
Nathan J. Snyder enlisted in the  United  States  Army  and  served  his
country  as  an  infantryman  in  Afghanistan from January of 2015 until
October of 2015; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his courageous service, Nathan J.  Snyder  was  awarded
the Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal,
Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct
Medal,  National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Nato Medal,
Combat Infantry Badge, and Air Assault Badge; and
 
  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on December  9,
2016,  Nathan  J. Snyder returned to his hometown and worked at the Troy
Post Office, and was in the process of reenlisting in the United  States
Army; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  fit,  young  man, Nathan J. Snyder could often be found
outdoors, whether it was snowmobiling, snowboarding, hiking, or fishing;
he also enjoyed spending time with his beloved  family,  especially  his
twin  brother  Nicholas  (Morgan);  brother,  Noah  T.; and two sisters,
Kristyn (Gary) and Stephanie M. (Jeff); and
 
  WHEREAS, Nathan J. Snyder died on October 20, 2018, at  the  age  of
23; he was buried in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Nathan J. Snyder demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend   Nathan  J.  Snyder  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Nathan J. Snyder.
