Senate Resolution No. 3220
 
BY: Senator JORDAN
 
        COMMENDING  James  H.  Miner posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend James H.
Miner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient  of
a  Liberty  Medal,  the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate to be presented at the Rensselaer County  Honor  a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Monday, September 14, 2020; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, James Howard Miner was born to Dorothy (Barber) and Charles
Miner on April 6, 1940, in Ticonderoga, New York; after graduating  from
Hoosick  Falls High School, he attended Hudson Valley Community College;
and
 
  WHEREAS, On September 23, 1963,  James  H.  Miner  enlisted  in  the
United  States Army and proudly served his country as a Specialist 4 E-4
during the Vietnam War; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the War, James  H.  Miner
was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksman Badge (Rifle M-1 and
M-14); and
 
  WHEREAS,  Upon  the  completion of his military service on September
22, 1969, James H. Miner returned to his hometown  and  worked  at  Wood
Flong  Corporation,  Haynes  Ford,  Morrison  Chevrolet, and Independent
Homes, Inc.; he was also the part owner of M&M Wine and Liquor Store and
served as a special events bartender for 30 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, James H. Miner, known as Dubby to his friends  and  family,
was  a  treasured  and  important  part of his community, serving as the
President of the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club, Treasurer  of  the  Hoosick
Falls Little League, Golf and Handicap Chairman and Board member for the
Hoosick   Falls  Country  Club,  and  was  actively  involved  with  St.
Stanislaus and the American Legion; and
 
  WHEREAS, James H. Miner was also a devoted family man, and loved  to
spend  time  with his partner and best friend of 27 years, Gale E. Leva,
and their  combined  family  which  consisted  of  six  children,  Brett
(Natalie),  Jason  (Ami),  Cherie, Joseph, Charles, and Nicole (Martin);
and 11 grandchildren, David, Zack,  Chad,  Timothy,  Samantha,  Madison,
Asher, Elizabeth, Janessa, Alyssa and Silas; and
 
 
  WHEREAS, James H. Miner died on April 11, 2017, at the age of 77; he
was  buried  at  the  Gerald  B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in
Schuylerville, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
James  H.  Miner  demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend James H. Miner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the  highest  honor  bestowed  upon  an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of James H. Miner.
