Senate Resolution No. 3270

COMMENDING Head Coach Tim Cluess upon the occasion
of stepping down after 10 years of distinguished
service to the Iona College Men's Basketball Team
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the notable athletic coaches who serve the youth of this great Empire
State and who have distinguished themselves and their schools through
outstanding commitment and exemplary athletic achievements; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Head Coach Tim Cluess upon the occasion of stepping down after
10 years of distinguished service to the Iona College Men's Basketball
Team; he will remain with the program in an advisory role; and
WHEREAS, Tim Cluess had led the Gaels to six NCAA Tournament
appearances since 2012; Iona also had five MAAC Tournament championships
and four regular season championships; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong New Yorker, Tim Cluess arrived in New Rochelle
in 2010 with no experience in Division I since playing at St. John's and
Hofstra, but found immediate success upon installing one of the fastest
and most exciting offensive systems in the nation, and won at least 20
games in each of his first eight years; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cluess, who elevated Iona men's basketball and put
them into the national spotlight on an annual basis, finished with 199
wins and a .650 winning percentage during his tenure, the highest marks
among any New York Metropolitan program in Division I; and
WHEREAS, Tim Cluess, who coached for 14 years at St. Mary's High
School in Manhasset, and one season at Suffolk Community College, went
98-23 in four seasons (2006-2010) at Division II C.W. Post; and
WHEREAS, A congenial leader, Tim Cluess' positive demeanor, selfless
commitment and caring concern have contributed to his unparalleled
success as a coach and mentor, earning him the just respect and
admiration of Iona College, his peers and the athletes he has so ably
coached; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring an outstanding coach whose
dedication and inspiration have been instrumental in developing
character and sportsmanship in aspiring young athletes, exemplifying the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Head Coach Tim Cluess upon the occasion of stepping down after
10 years of distinguished service to the Iona College Men's Basketball
Team; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Head Coach Tim Cluess.
