Senate Resolution No. 1321

        COMMEMORATING  the 100th Anniversary of the Church
        of the Holy Spirit of East Greenbush, New York
 
  WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social  and
educational  benefits  they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this  Nation  to  pay
tribute  to  those  institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in  commemorating  the
100th  Anniversary  of  the Church of the Holy Spirit of East Greenbush,
New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Church of the Holy Spirit is a  Roman  Catholic  Church
serving  East  Greenbush  and  the  surrounding  community;  through its
adherence to the two pillars of Catholic  faith,  sacred  scripture  and
sacred  tradition,  it  strives  to  embody  the gospel message and live
according to His will; and
 
  WHEREAS, The first East Greenbush parish, the  Church  of  the  Holy
Spirit  was  founded in 1923, with 50 founding parishioners; today, Holy
Spirit Church has grown to a congregation of more  than  1,200  families
residing in East Greenbush; and
 
  WHEREAS,  From  its  humble  beginnings  in  the  living room of the
Hysermann family living room to rented quarters in the Grange Hall,  the
parish grew to enable the purchase of property from the Elliott farm and
the building of the church in the early Romanesque style; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Bishop  Gibbons  approved the petition for the Holy Spirit
Church and named Father John Fox as Pastor, who made an immediate impact
and grew the parish from 50 members to 455 in 15 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Currently under the luminous leadership of Father  Quy  Vo,
the Church of the Holy Spirit continues Reverend John Fox's tradition of
welcoming all; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Church  of the Holy Spirit stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the  coming  decades  while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such  institutions  to  the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Church of the  Holy  Spirit  of
East  Greenbush,  New  York,  fully  confident  that  this commemoration
reflects the belief in  those  values  which  enhance  the  dignity  and
purpose of life; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Father Quy Vo, Pastor, the Church of the Holy  Spirit  of
East Greenbush, New York.
