CELEBRATING the life and accomplishments of
William R. Hilts, distinguished citizen, family man,
and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a generous and inspiring individual, who touched the lives of many; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of William R. Hilts of Sanborn, New York, who died
on Monday, December 12, 2022; and
WHEREAS, William R. Hilts was a man of many passions and interests;
he enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing,
watching birds, or camping throughout the Adirondacks, and wrote
numerous articles about his adventures for various newspapers and
magazines; and
WHEREAS, This avid outdoorsman loved to tell a good story around the
campfire or at various sportsman club events, and was known for his
delicious fish boils and wild game dinners; above all, he enjoyed
spending time with his beloved family; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, the former Sylvia C. Eggert, one
brother, Irvin Hilts, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Marge, William R. Hilts
is survived by his three sons, William D. (Sandra), Richard E.
(Lynette), and David M. (Julie); one daughter, Susan; seven
grandchildren, Kiel, Owen, Christian, Natalie Adelia, Marla (Kyle),
Keith (Brandy), and Kim; and many other family members and friends, as
well as fellow outdoors enthusiasts who will long cherish his zest for
life; and
WHEREAS, William R. Hilts leaves behind a legacy of humor,
generosity, positivity, and hard work that will long endure the passage
of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and
befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the tribute of
this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of William R. Hilts,
distinguished citizen, family man, and devoted member of his community;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of William R. Hilts.
