Assembly Resolution No. 157

        CONGRATULATING Elizabeth Stanley upon the occasion
        of celebrating her 100th Birthday
 
  WHEREAS,  Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play  in  today's  society;  their
past  contributions  and  future  participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative  Body  to  commemorate
and  recognize  certain  milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
congratulate Elizabeth Stanley upon the occasion of her  100th  Birthday
to  be  celebrated  on  Saturday,  March  11,  2023,  at  Lemuel  Haynes
Congregational Church in Jamaica, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born in Walterboro, South Carolina, Elizabeth Stanley moved
to Brooklyn, New York in 1945, when she  married  her  beloved  husband,
World  War  II  Veteran,  Reginald  Stanley; in 1951, she later moved to
South Ozone Park, New York, where she has since lived for an  impressive
72 years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  An avid churchgoer, Elizabeth Stanley joined Lemuel Haynes
Congregational Church in 1952, and had been a participant in  the  choir
from the early 1960s until around 2016, when it was disbanded; and
 
  WHEREAS, Elizabeth Stanley, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Helping  her  community  in a multitude of ways, Elizabeth
Stanley volunteered as a Street Crossing Guard at Public School 123  for
at least 20 years, was once a member of the 140th Block Association, and
selflessly provided child foster care services for a decade; and
 
  WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys  and  sorrows  characteristic  of  and  reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  her  throughout  have  been  her  beloved   husband,
Reginald;  sons, Rodney, and the late Tyrone; grandchildren, Christopher
and MarkAnthony; great-grandchildren, Anissa,  Giada,  and  Kincade,  as
well as her great-great-grandchild, Aria, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Elizabeth  Stanley  has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere  love  for  others  and  through  the
profound charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  intent  of  this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a  remarkable  age  and  who  have
witnessed  and  celebrated  the  innovations, cultural developments, and
 
magnificent achievements of this country during the last century,  while
themselves  contributing  to  the  growth  and  excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elizabeth Stanley upon  the  occasion  of  celebrating  her
100th Birthday; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elizabeth Stanley.
