Assembly Resolution No. 183

        HONORING  Niagara  University upon the occasion of
        its designation as recipient of the Green Initiative
        Award sponsored by  National  Grid,  in  conjunction
        with the Niagara USA Chamber
 
  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those institutions and  individuals  who  dedicate  their
purposeful work to increasing public awareness of, and appreciation for,
the  natural  resources  of  New York, recognizing the role all citizens
have in protecting the environment and the quality of life in this great
Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Niagara  University upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the Green Initiative Award sponsored by National  Grid,  in  conjunction
with  the  Niagara  USA  Chamber  to  be  celebrated  at its 2019 Awards
Ceremony at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, Niagara Falls, New York,
on Friday, March 15, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Niagara USA Chamber  is  proud  to  celebrate  business
excellence in the Niagara Region; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Conserving  energy  is  not only an economical concern but
also an environmental concern; and
 
  WHEREAS, Over the past few years, Niagara University  has  converted
lighting  in 30 buildings to LED tubes from old fluorescent style tubes;
nearly 17,000 old tubes were replaced and 1,500 fluorescent  tubes  were
eliminated  altogether;  overall, brightness was increased in many areas
with the modern-day lighting; and
 
  WHEREAS, Electric consumption for lighting was reduced by more  than
50  percent  providing  an approximate annual savings of $80,000 and has
reduced their carbon footprint by over 1,000,000 pounds; and
 
  WHEREAS, Niagara University  has  several  other  green  initiatives
including the installation of four electric charging stations on campus;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Niagara University, a prominent and well respected college,
is  the  quintessential  selection  for the prestigious Green Initiative
Award; and
 
  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
institutions  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Niagara  University  upon  the  occasion  of  its  designation  as
recipient  of  the Green Initiative Award sponsored by National Grid, in
conjunction with the Niagara USA Chamber; and be it further
 
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Niagara University.
