Assembly Resolution No. 324

        COMMEMORATING   the   50th   Anniversary   of  the
        Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band
 
  WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central  to  human
expression;  they  are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and  understanding  among  all  peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment  and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  50th  Anniversary of the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe &
Drum Band; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band celebrated this
momentous occasion by marching in the 20th Annual New York  City  Tartan
Day Parade on Saturday, April 6, 2019, in New York City; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Founded  in  1969  by  its  pipe  major Lee Adelsberg, the
Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band is based in Chemung County,  New
York;  its  members hail from all corners of the Finger Lakes region and
are all volunteers of various heritage and  backgrounds  who  enjoy  the
tradition and glory of Scottish and Irish music; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  several  of  its  current  band members were
instrumental in the formation of the Scottish American  Society  of  the
Southern Tier in 1976; and
 
  WHEREAS, Over the past five decades, the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe
&  Drum Band has earned its reputation as a talented band in Upstate New
York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Performing  at  traditional  events,   parades,   parties,
weddings, funerals and festivals, the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum
Band's  distinct  traditional music inspires and delights young and old;
and
 
  WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper for this Legislative Body to  take
note  of  such  a prestigious, musically gifted band, which brings great
pride to the music industry as well as the citizens of this great Empire
State; and
 
  WHEREAS, With deep appreciation, this Legislative Body is pleased to
have this opportunity  to  recognize  the  exceptional  talents  of  the
members of the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band, and to wish them
continued success in all their future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Caledonian  Highlanders  Pipe  &
Drum Band; and be it further
 
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Caledonian Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band.
