HONORING Joann Prinzivalli upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joann
Prinzivalli upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the New York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New
Yorkers' Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Hart Theatre
Lounge in The Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Joann Prinzivalli has given
tirelessly of her time and energies to The LOFT: LGBT Community Center
where she has served as facilitator and co-founder of its Transgender
Peer Support Group, facilitator of its Women's Group, and helps the
organization provide LGBT and Trans 101 trainings in the greater
community; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she was instrumental in the organization of
The LOFT's first Transgender Day of Remembrance Ceremony in 2003, an
event which honors lives lost to anti-transgender violence and which has
been held every year since; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with The LOFT, Joann Prinzivalli
provides pro bono legal assistance to the transgender community; she has
also been a member of the Westchester County LGBT Advisory Board since
its inception in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joann Prinzivalli currently
resides in White Plains; with more than 35 years of title insurance
underwriting experience, she serves as the Chief Counsel for Insignia
National Title Agency in Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, Joann Prinzivalli is the founder and state director of the
New York Transgender Rights Organization (NYTRO), an unincorporated
association dedicated to grassroots transgender activism; she is also a
board member and past chair of the Lower Hudson Valley chapter of the
New York Civil Liberties Union; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to Westchester's
LGBT community, Joann Prinzivalli was awarded Top Honors at the
Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her spouse, the late Trudy Katz, with her
throughout have been her four children and five grandchildren, who have
all shown her love and support and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Joann Prinzivalli has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Joann Prinzivalli, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joann Prinzivalli upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joann Prinzivalli.
