Assembly Resolution No. 427

        HONORING Chief William Karn Jr.  upon the occasion
        of  his  retirement  after 27 years of distinguished
        service to the Lancaster Police Department
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant  milestones  in  the  distinguished  careers   of   esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief William Karn Jr. upon the occasion  of  his  retirement  after  27
years of distinguished service to the Lancaster Police Department; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  graduate of Lancaster High School and the University at
Buffalo  School  of  Law,  started  working  at  the  Lancaster   Police
Department in February 1996; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 2012, Chief William Karn Jr. was promoted to Captain and
oversaw  the  Detective  Bureau until he was promoted to Police Chief in
2019; and
 
  WHEREAS, As Chief, William Karn Jr. added a police officer position,
dispatcher, and School Resource Officer; he also authorized  and  helped
develop  the  LPD  Therapy  Dog Program, School Liaison Program, and the
Community Outreach Unit; and
 
  WHEREAS, For the past 27 years,  Chief  William  Karn  Jr.  rendered
faithful,  conscientious,  and  valuable service to the Lancaster Police
Department,  earning  the  admiration,  esteem,  and  affection  of  his
colleagues; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  his  capacity  as  Chief, William Karn Jr. served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty
and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts;
and
 
  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief William Karn Jr. upon the occasion of his  retirement  after
27  years  of  distinguished service to the Lancaster Police Department;
and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Chief William Karn Jr.
