MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
July 23, 2023, as Bubbles and Icees Day in the State
of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which enhance the profile of cultural diversity in New
York State, while strengthening the fabric of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim July 23, 2023, as Bubbles
and Icees Day in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Bubbles and Icees Day was started in 2017 by community
advocate and youth mentor, Anthony Beckford, at Nostrand Playground in
Brooklyn, N.Y., and was expanded to several other parks throughout
Brooklyn; Bubbles and Icees Day celebrates the need for youth to engage
in rich wholesome fun and for their families to be provided with much
needed resources and services; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of Bubbles and Icees Day is to raise awareness
of the need for more programming and recreational needs for youth and to
strengthen the community relationship with young people; this provides
an outlet for youth to engage with each other and to help create healthy
social experiences; and
WHEREAS, On July 23, 2017, Bubbles and Icees Day was established;
this year marks the sixth year of Bubbles and Icees programming being
implemented throughout New Yok and also celebrates the first year to be
recognized by the State; and
WHEREAS, Over 10,000 youth and their families have been entertained
and serviced due to programming of games, mentorship, resources and
services as a result of Bubbles and Icees Day; and
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim July 23, 2023, as Bubbles
and Icees Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York, and Community Organizations who provide programming to the youth
across the State
