CONGRATULATING Lindsey Butler upon the occasion of
capturing the Girls 800-meter NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track
and Field Championship on June 7, 2019
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Lindsey Butler upon the occasion of capturing the Girls 800-meter
NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, June 7, 2019,
at Middletown High School in Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to this monumental win, Lindsey Butler was
crowned the NYSPHSAA Champion in the Girls 600-meter Indoor Track and
Field Championship on Saturday, March 2, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Number one seed Lindsey Butler won the Girls 800-meter race
with an outstanding time of 2:06.88, just a second faster than the
runner-up; her incredibly fast time knocked off a 35-year-old Section 4
record; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of black and gold, her
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported Lindsey Butler throughout her journey as she ended her season
with an impressive overall record; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as track and field, which demands
endurance, speed and agility, Coaches Joe Melanson, Ray Lawson, Andrew
Cartwright, and Kale Wilcox have worked hard to hone the skills of this
champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove
invaluable both on and off the track; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Lindsey Butler has clearly made a contribution
to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lindsey Butler upon the occasion of capturing the Girls
800-meter NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, June
7, 2019; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lindsey Butler, and Coaches Joe Melanson, Ray Lawson,
Andrew Cartwright, and Kale Wilcox.
