CONGRATULATING Andrea Herman upon the occasion of
her retirement after 30 years of distinguished
service to the Crandall Public Library
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Andrea Herman upon the occasion of her retirement after 30
years of distinguished service to the Crandall Public Library; she will
officially retire on Tuesday, July 30, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Herman's life experience has been varied and full;
she raised three children, started her own business, and worked in a
bookstore; her talents extend to furniture refinishing where she has
exhibited samples of her restorations at museums, craft shows, and
galleries; in this capacity, she brought the arts, culture, and
education to her community; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Herman's degrees from Syracuse University and SUNY
Albany also prepared her for the myriad of questions she has fielded
during her years at the Crandall Public Library; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Herman began her employment at the Crandall Public
Library on August 29, 1989, as a part-time Librarian I; she was
responsible for public service desk coverage, filing, book displays, and
subject bibliographies; she also helped at the Circulation desk when
they had meetings and was assigned special projects, such as publicity
for the Library's Environmental Series; and
WHEREAS, When Andrea Herman became a full-time Librarian, she
handled ILL (interlibrary loans) and selected nonfiction books; as her
contributions and confidence increased, so did her responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Andrea Herman was promoted to Librarian II and
became the Head of Information Services; she supervised other reference
staff, ordered materials for the Reference Collection and participated
in management meetings, as well as remaining accountable for her
aforementioned duties; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Andrea Herman became the Adult Services
Supervisor; she was responsible for the management of 10 librarians and
library assistants, and coordination of collection development for all
materials, whether print, electronic, or audio visual; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Andrea Herman was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; during
her tenure with the Crandall Public Library, she earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Andrea Herman upon the occasion of her retirement after 30
years of distinguished service to the Crandall Public Library, and to
wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrea Herman.
