CONGRATULATING Don Hammond upon the occasion of
his retirement as the Mayor of the Village of Nyack,
New York, after decades of dedicated service to the
residents of the County of Rockland and the Village
of Nyack
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those who
have served to better the quality of life in our communities and have
had a measurable positive impact on the lives of its residents; Don
Hammond is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Don Hammond upon the occasion of his retirement as the
Mayor of the Village of Nyack, New York, after decades of dedicated
service to the residents of the County of Rockland and the Village of
Nyack; and
WHEREAS, Don Hammond grew up in the Village of Nyack and has spent
most of his life living there; he is a proud graduate of the Nyack
School System and served as a member of its Board of Education for seven
years; and
WHEREAS, For over 30 years, Don Hammond has served in executive
capacities for both national and regional nonprofit organizations; he
served as President/CEO of Meals on Wheels in Rockland County, New York,
President/CEO of the United Way of the Duchess-Orange Region, and Chief
Operating Officer of the Rockland County YMCA; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, Don Hammond was elected Mayor of the Village of
Nyack, and was officially sworn into office on December 21, 2017, by his
predecessor, former Mayor Jen Laird White; he has continued to hold this
esteemed title until his upcoming retirement in 2023 after six years of
service; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mayor Don Hammond upon the occasion of his retirement,
after decades of distinguished service to the residents of the County of
Rockland and the Village of Nyack, and to wish him well in all of his
future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Don Hammond.
