CONGRATULATING G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. upon the
occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service as President of Corning
Enterprises
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of distinguished service as President of Corning
Enterprises to be celebrated with a Party in his honor on Tuesday, March
24, 2020; and
WHEREAS, G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. began his illustrious career with
Corning Incorporated as Director of Government Affairs in 2000, and
became President of Corning Enterprises in 2004; he will officially
retire from this revered position on Wednesday, April 1, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of G. Thomas Tranter, Jr.,
Corning Enterprises remains true to its mission to positively impact the
economic, cultural, educational, and social health of the region in and
around the Corning area; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as President, G. Thomas Tranter,
Jr. also serves as Director of Community and Government Affairs,
collaborating and working closely with state and local government
leaders on a variety of public policy issues; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining Corning Enterprises, G. Thomas Tranter,
Jr. served as Chemung County Executive, a position to which he was
elected for three four-year terms; before assuming the County Executive
post, he served as Deputy County Executive, Horseheads Village Manager,
and Executive Director of the Chemung County Chapter of the American Red
Cross; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. serves on the Boards of Elmira
College, Corning's Gaffer District, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben
Workforce New York, and Southern Tier Central Regional Planning and
Development Board; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he served as Chairman of Three Rivers
Development Corporation and is a past Chairman of the United Way of the
Southern Tier's Board of Directors, The Business Council of New York
State, and the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger
Lakes; and
WHEREAS, G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree
from Elmira College and a Master of Professional Studies degree from
Alfred University; he is also a graduate of Cornell University's
Executive Development program; and
WHEREAS, For the past 20 years, President G. Thomas Tranter, Jr.
rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable service to Corning
Incorporated and Corning Enterprises, earning the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues and peers; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as
demonstrated by G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of distinguished service as President of Corning
Enterprises; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to G. Thomas Tranter, Jr.
