MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 12-20, 2020, as Get Out The Count Week in the
State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to memorialize
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12-20, 2020, as Get Out The
Count Week in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The United States Constitution requires the conduct of a
full count of the population every 10 years; and
WHEREAS, The Census Bureau begins the decennial census count in
January of 2020, and April 1st is designated as Census Day; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative for all households in this State to fully
participate in the population count by completing the census
questionnaire; and
WHEREAS, The census population count is used to determine how many
of the 435 congressional seats are allocated to each state; and
WHEREAS, Population data issued by the Census Bureau based on the
count is used to redraw legislative and congressional districts in each
state; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the census population data is used to
distribute approximately $675 billion in federal funds to states and
local communities throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Census data also informs emergency response efforts, and
research in various areas of the sciences, advancing knowledge and the
ability to plan for the present and future; and
WHEREAS, Because of its importance for majority representation,
federal funding, emergency response efforts, and knowledge used for
current and future planning, it is imperative for the State of New York
to encourage full participation of all residents in the 2020 Census;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12-20, 2020, as
Get Out The Count Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
