COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of the
Metropolitan Museum of Art on March 16, 2020
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those institutions which devote their energy, resources and thoughtful
care to the collection, preservation, interpretation, and dissemination
of American art and art from across the world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to
be celebrated with a Ceremony on Monday, March 16, 2020, in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870, by a
group of eclectic American citizens who wanted to create a museum to
bring art and art education to the American people; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished 150-year history, the
Metropolitan Museum of Art has collected thousands of paintings,
sculptures, photographs, and artifacts which exhibit cultures from
across the world; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, since its inception, the Metropolitan Museum
of Art has expanded to encompass three locations in New York City: The
Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters; and
WHEREAS, One of the most renowned and impactful art institutions in
the world, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is visited by millions of
patrons every year and brings in over one hundred million dollars in
revenue; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to its community, the Metropolitan Museum of
Art has offered many internships and programs for students and scholars,
raising the next generation of artists and art educators; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is due in
large part to the efforts of its expert staff whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on
March 16, 2020; and it be further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
