COMMEMORATING the 200th Anniversary of the Town of
Glenville, New York
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Glenville, New York;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be observed throughout the
year, and on April 14, 2020, the Town celebrated a virtual birthday bash
at Wolf Hollow Brewing Company; and
WHEREAS, Located in the north-west end of Schenectady County laying
on the north bank of the Mohawk River, the Town of Glenville was formed
by virtue of the Act of 1820; the first town meeting was held on January
2, 1821, and Albert Vedder was selected as the Town's first Supervisor;
and
WHEREAS, Glenville (which includes the Village of Scotia) has grown
to be a town of 50 square miles and nearly 30,000 residents boasting
stellar parks, a vibrant and growing business community, and wonderful
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Glenville is named after Alexander Lindsay Glen, who was a
native of Scotland, and acquired a large tract of land in the area in
the 1650s; and
WHEREAS, Alplaus, Hoffmans, East Glenville, Scotia, Stoodley
Corners, and West Glenville comprise the several communities within the
Town of Glenville offering residents and visitors alike, a diverse mix
of residential living, farms, retail outlets and recreation; and
WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Town of Glenville continues its commitment to
enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all
essential services; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Glenville, New York,
recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the
life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chris Koetzle, Supervisor, Town of Glenville, and Members
of the Town Board.
