Assembly Resolution No. 965

        CELEBRATING   the   life  and  accomplishments  of
        Michael A. Spaccaforno, meritorious veteran, devoted
        family man and dedicated member of his community
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York  whose  lifework  and  civic  endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Michael A. Spaccaforno died on Tuesday, December 24, 2019,
at the age of 72; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born on July 16, 1947, in New York  City,  Michael  Anthony
Spaccaforno  and his family lived in Astoria, Queens, and then Rosedale,
New York; he attended St. Mary's Catholic School in  Long  Island  City,
New  York,  and in 1965, he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in
Cambria Heights, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Michael A. Spaccaforno then enlisted in the  United  States
Marine Corps and completed his eight months of training at Parris Island
in South Carolina, Camp Lejuene in North Carolina, and Camp Pendelton in
California; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During  the  Vietnam  War,  Michael A. Spaccaforno proudly
served his country in 38 combat missions, earning  numerous  awards  and
accolades for his heroism and bravery; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Upon  the  completion  of  his  military  service in 1968,
Michael A.   Spaccaforno returned  to  New  York  and  studied  advanced
drafting, design and structures at the Delahanty School of Architecture;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  After  working in the store front industry for five years,
Michael A. Spaccaforno opened his own company, All Town Glass,  in  West
Islip, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  June 9, 1988, Michael A. Spaccaforno married his wife,
Susan; in that same year, the couple and their four  children  moved  to
Trout Creek, New York, where he opened, organized and incorporated Forno
Enterprises, an architectural and aluminum contract glazing company; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During this time, Michael A. Spaccaforno and his wife also
purchased a building in Walton, New York, and opened a retail store, the
Village Closet on Delaware Street, serving the needs of their  community
for over two decades; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Michael  A. Spaccaforno was an important and vital part of
his community  in  numerous  other  capacities  including  Commander  of
American  Legion  Post No. 1554 and member of the Board of Directors for
the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 2009, Michael A. Spaccaforno began his political  career
as  a  Town  of  Masonville  Councilman, and from 2012-2019, he held the
title of Town of Masonville Supervisor; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  a  steadfast  and  unwavering commitment, Michael A.
Spaccaforno was always ready to lend a helping hand and strived to  make
his  community  a  better place for its resident to live, work and play;
and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition to his role as  a  civil  servant,  Michael  A.
Spaccaoforno  will  forever  be  remembered as a warrior and patriot who
loved his country, the Marines and his  family;  this  great  man  truly
epitomized the phrase "Once a Marine always a Marine"; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Michael A. Spaccaforno leaves behind  a  legacy  which  will
long  endure  the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
celebrate  the  life  and  accomplishments  of  Michael  A. Spaccaforno,
meritorious veteran, devoted family man  and  dedicated  member  of  his
community; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Michael A. Spaccaforno.
