Go to top STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 848 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN SENATE January 6, 2023 ___________ Introduced by Sen. GIANARIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to the recognition of the establishment of a workplace safety committee by an employer The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 9 of section 27-d of the labor 2 law, as added by a chapter of the laws of 2022 amending the labor law 3 relating to employer violations of certain provisions allowing for work- 4 place safety committees, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 5 9450 and A. 10492, is amended to read as follows: 6 (a) An employer must recognize within [five] fifteen business days the 7 establishment of a workplace safety committee created pursuant to this 8 section. Violations of this subdivision shall result in a civil penalty 9 of not less than fifty dollars per day until the violation is remedied. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same 11 manner as a chapter of the laws of 2022 amending the labor law relating 12 to employer violations of certain provisions allowing for workplace 13 safety committees, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 9450 and 14 A. 10492, takes effect.
