          SON, SERRANO, SMITH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when print-
          ed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring all teachers

          to be trained in identifying and responding to asthma emergencies
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 3001-e
     2  to read as follows:
     3    § 3001-e. Asthma emergencies; training in identification and response.
     4  The commissioner, in consultation with the commissioner of health, shall
     5  establish standards for the training of teachers and  other  appropriate
     6  personnel  in identifying and responding to asthma emergencies in pupils
     7  and other persons. Such standards shall specify minimum levels of  know-
     8  ledge  and procedures to be followed. Such standards shall permit train-

     9  ing to be given by persons or organizations deemed qualified to do so by
    10  the commissioner.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect one year after it shall have become  a
    12  law.
