AN ACT to grant Cole Samsel eligibility for permanent appointment as a
police officer with the police department of the village of Oxford, in
the county of Chenango
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of paragraph (a) of subdivi-
2 sion 1 or subdivision 4 of section 58 of the civil service law to the
3 contrary, Cole Samsel, who previously received a permanent appointment
4 in the competitive class of civil service as a police officer with the
5 sheriff's department of the county of Chenango, resigned from such posi-
6 tion after several years, has been absent from such position for more
7 than 30 days and is over the age of 35, shall be eligible to take the
8 competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer
9 and shall, contingent upon his score on such examination, be eligible to
10 be placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full-time patrolman
11 for the village of Oxford.
12 § 2. Cole Samsel shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness
13 provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time police offi-
14 cers.
15 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
