        Introduced  by Sen. SQUADRON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on  Energy  and  Telecommuni-
          cations
 
        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  public  service law, in relation to prohibiting
          certain additional charges for unlisted telephone numbers

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  The public service law is amended by adding a new section
     2  92-h to read as follows:
     3    § 92-h.  Telephone  service;  charges.  No  telephone  corporation  or
     4  provider or any person, firm or corporation acting as an agent or repre-
     5  sentative  of a telephone corporation or provider shall impose any addi-
     6  tional charge for unlisted telephone numbers over and above the  custom-
     7  ary charges imposed by that telephone corporation or provider for listed
     8  telephone  numbers, nor should any fee be associated with making private
     9  a telephone number that is public.   In  construing  and  enforcing  the
    10  provisions  of  this section, the act of any person, firm or corporation
    11  acting as an agent or representative of a telephone corporation shall be
    12  deemed to be the act of such telephone corporation.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
    14  have  become  a  law;  provided  that  the  public service commission is
    15  authorized to promulgate any and all rules and regulations and take  any
    16  other  measures  necessary  to  implement section one of this act on its
    17  effective date on or before such date.
