                                    January 22, 2019
                                       ___________

Introduced by Sen. SANDERS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education

AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the application for
admission to the practice of a profession by a veteran admitted to
          practice in another jurisdiction

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 6505-d
     2 to read as follows:
3 § 6505-d. Application for admission to the practice of a profession by
4 a veteran admitted to practice in another jurisdiction. The commission-
5 er shall provide for temporary admission to the practice of a profession
6 by a veteran who is admitted to the practice of that profession in
7 another jurisdiction for the period of time it takes for the veteran's
8 application for admission to the practice of a profession in New York
9 state to be processed. Such application shall be determined by the
10 commissioner within thirty days of the filing of the application with
11 the commissioner by the veteran. If the commissioner determines that the
12 education, training and prior admission to the practice of a profession
13 in another jurisdiction are essentially equivalent to the requirements
14 necessary for admission to practice the profession in New York state,
15 then the commissioner shall grant such veteran admission to practice the
16 profession in New York state.
17 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
