AN ACT authorizing the village of Sagaponack in the town of Southampton,
county of Suffolk to enter into an inter-municipal agreement for the
provision of police services with any town in the county of Suffolk
with which it shares a border
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of other law to the contrary,
2 the village of Sagaponack, town of Southampton, county of Suffolk, may
3 enter into an inter-municipal agreement for the provisions of police
4 services pursuant to article 5-G of the general municipal law with any
5 town in the county of Suffolk which shares a border with the village of
6 Sagaponack and which has established a police department pursuant to
7 section 150 of the town law. Such agreement shall delineate the services
8 to be performed and shall provide the compensation to be paid to said
9 town for such police services. Where such an inter-municipal agreement
10 has been approved and while such inter-municipal agreement is in effect,
11 no assessment on property in the village of Sagaponack shall be made for
12 the maintenance or operation of the town police department, pursuant to
13 section 150 of the town law nor shall the Southampton town police
14 department have any legal obligation to provide police services, as
15 required by section 150 of the town law. If such inter-municipal agree-
16 ment is with a town other than the town of Southampton, the town of

1 Southampton may by resolution authorize such other town to provide
2 police services for any town of Southampton property located within the
3 village of Sagaponack. If the town of Southampton has not authorized
4 another town to provide police services for any town of Southampton
5 property located within the village of Sagaponack, then the town of
6 Southampton shall be required to provide police services on any such
7 town property, and shall be authorized to assess, levy and collect from
8 the taxable property of the village of Sagaponack for the costs of the
9 Southampton town police department's obligation to provide police
10 services on such town of Southampton property located within such
11 village.
12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
