AN ACT to amend the village law, in relation to including a high school
member on village boards of trustees
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 1 of section 3-301 of the
2 village law is amended to read as follows:
3 b. four trustees, except that the board of trustees of a village may
4 change the number of trustees as authorized by section 3-304 of this
5 article, and except that the board of trustees of a village may appoint
6 one student representative to such board as authorized by section 3-305
7 of this article;
8 § 2. The village law is amended by adding a new section 3-305 to read
9 as follows:
10 § 3-305 Student representative. The board of trustees by resolution
11 or local law may appoint one student representative to such board. Such
12 student representative shall be a senior in a high school of a school
13 district in which all or part of such school district is contained with-
14 in such village. The term of such student representative shall be for
15 one year and shall begin on the July first preceding the senior year of
16 such student representative and end the following June thirtieth. A
17 vacancy of such representative may be filled by the board for the
18 remainder of such term. Such student representative shall be entitled
19 to sit with board members at all public meetings of the board and
20 participate in all board hearings and meetings, provided that such
21 student representative shall not be allowed to vote, shall not be
22 allowed to attend executive session, and shall not be entitled to
23 receive compensation of any form.
24 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
