        Introduced  by  Sen. BONACIC -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
 
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to providing  a
          waiver  from the driving skills test for a driver's license for active
          duty and recently discharged military personnel
 

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 502 of the vehicle and traffic law
     2  is amended by adding a new paragraph (i) to read as follows:
     3    (i)  The  commissioner shall promulgate regulations to provide for the
     4  waiver of any test required pursuant to subparagraph (ii)  of  paragraph
     5  (a)  of this subdivision for any person who has demonstrated the driving
     6  skills necessary to pass such test through his or  her  service  in  the
     7  United  States  army,  navy,  air  force,  marines,  coast guard, and/or
     8  reserves thereof, and/or the army national guard,  air  national  guard,
     9  New  York  guard and/or the New York naval militia, and who is currently

    10  in service or was  honorably  discharged  or  released  under  honorable
    11  circumstances  from  such service less than one year prior to his or her
    12  request for such a waiver.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
