AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing
the issuance of distinctive license plates to auxiliary police or
their spouses
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new
2 section 404-x to read as follows:
3 § 404-x. Distinctive plates for auxiliary police. 1. Any member of an
4 auxiliary police department or company in this state or the spouse of
5 such member shall, upon request, be issued a distinctive number plate
6 bearing the words "Auxiliary Police". Provided, however, that if a
7 distinctive plate is issued to a member of an auxiliary police depart-
8 ment or company pursuant to this section, no such plate shall be issued
9 to his or her spouse. Application for said license plate shall be filed
10 with the commissioner in such form and detail as the commissioner shall
11 prescribe, and shall be verified annually by the applicant.
12 2. The distinctive plate authorized in subdivision one of this section
13 shall be issued upon proof, satisfactory to the commissioner, that the
14 applicant or the spouse of the applicant is presently an active member
15 of an auxiliary police department or company.
16 3. A distinctive plate issued pursuant to this section shall be issued
17 in the same manner as other number plates upon payment of the regular
18 registration fee prescribed by section four hundred one of this article
19 and an additional annual service charge of fifteen dollars.
20 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
