AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to excluding certain
graduate students from mandatory fees
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph h of subdivision 2 of section 355 of the educa-
2 tion law is amended by adding a new subparagraph 11 to read as follows:
3 (11) All current and future mandatory fees owed on or after January
4 first, two thousand twenty-three, with the exclusion of the graduate
5 student association student activities fee, shall not be charged to a
6 graduate student serving a full-time or half-time appointment as a grad-
7 uate teaching assistant, graduate assistant, graduate research assist-
8 ant, graduate research associate, or a graduate teaching associate.
9 § 2. Subdivision 7 of section 6206 of the education law is amended by
10 adding a new subparagraph (g) to read as follows:
11 (g) All current and future mandatory fees owed on or after January
12 first, two thousand twenty-three, with the exclusion of the graduate
13 student association student activities fee, shall not be charged to a
14 graduate student serving as a graduate assistant, adjunct instructor,
15 adjunct lecturer, adjunct college laboratory technician or a non-teach-
16 ing adjunct staff member.
17 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
