        Introduced  by  Sen.  LANZA  -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on New York City Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the  city  of  New  York,  in
          relation to establishing an alternatively assessed student program

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Title 21-A of the administrative code of the  city  of  New
     2  York is amended by adding a new chapter 12-A to read as follows:
     3                                Chapter 12-A
     4                    Alternatively Assessed Student Program
     5    §  21-974.5 Alternatively assessed student program.  1. The chancellor
     6  is hereby authorized to create an alternatively assessed student program
     7  within all public schools in the department  that  include  grades  nine
     8  through twelve.
     9    2.  Such  program would allow one individual, per school, per year, to
    10  be hired as a school aid in any public school within the department.  To
    11  qualify for such position, such candidate must be qualified as an alter-
    12  natively assessed student as determined  by  the  committee  on  special
    13  education.
    14    3.  The  chancellor may promulgate any necessary rules and regulations
    15  to ensure the success of such program.
    16    § 2. This act shall  take  effect  on  the  first  of  September  next
    17  succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
