AN ACT to amend the general municipal law, in relation to including
lakes in adopt-a-municipal park, shoreline or roadway programs
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 277 of the general municipal law, as added by
2 chapter 626 of the laws of 1991, is amended to read as follows:
3 § 277. Adopt-a-municipal park, shoreline [or], roadway or lake
4 programs. 1. The governing body of any county, city, town or village is
5 hereby authorized and empowered to authorize and direct such of its
6 officers or agencies as it shall designate to enter into adopt-a-park,
7 shoreline [or], roadway or lake program agreements with volunteers or
8 groups in an effort to reduce and remove litter from parks, shorelines,
9 roadways, lakes and other public lands. Such agreements shall include
10 but not be limited to:
11 a. providing and coordinating services by volunteers or groups to
12 reduce the amount of litter including providing trash bags and trash bag
13 pick up and in designated areas where volunteers may be in close proxim-
14 ity to moving vehicles providing safety briefings and reflective safety
15 gear; and
16 b. providing and installing signs identifying those volunteers or
17 groups adopting particular parks, shorelines, roadways, lakes or other
18 sections of public land.
19 2. Notwithstanding any inconsistent provision of law, the county,
20 city, town or village and its employees shall not be liable for damages
21 suffered by any persons resulting from the actions or activities of such
22 volunteers or groups.
23 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
