        Introduced  by  Sen.  LANZA  -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Corporations,  Authorities
          and Commissions
 
        AN ACT to amend chapter 774 of the laws of 1950, agreeing with the state
          of  New Jersey with respect to rules and regulations governing traffic

          on vehicular crossings operated by the port of New York authority,  in
          relation to discounted tokens issued to senior citizens
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Chapter 774 of the laws of 1950, agreeing with the state of
     2  New Jersey with respect to rules and regulations  governing  traffic  on
     3  vehicular  crossings  operated  by  the  port  of New York authority, is
     4  amended by adding a new section 2-a to read as follows:
     5    § 2-a. The port authority shall offer for sale to senior citizens  age
     6  sixty  years  or older, tokens or other payment devices, and may, except
     7  as otherwise provided in this section, regulate the  use  thereof.  Such
     8  tokens  or other payment devices shall entitle senior citizens to use of

     9  vehicular crossings operated by the port authority at a reduced cost  of
    10  fifty  percent  of  the  regular fare or toll imposed.  In the event the
    11  port authority shall impose a surcharge in addition to the regular  toll
    12  for  use  of  vehicular  crossings, such surcharge shall not be deemed a
    13  part of the regular crossing fare for purposes of this section  and  the
    14  tokens  or  other  payment  devices  offered for sale to senior citizens
    15  shall also entitle the purchaser  to  a  permanent  exemption  from  the
    16  payment  of  any surcharge. Application for such tokens or other payment
    17  devices shall be made in such manner as prescribed by the port authority
    18  and shall contain such information as it may reasonably require.

    19    § 2. This act shall take effect upon the enactment  into  law  by  the
    20  state  of New Jersey of legislation having an identical effect with this
    21  act, but if the state of New jersey  shall  have  already  enacted  such
    22  legislation,  this  act shall take effect immediately; provided that the
    23  chairman of the port authority of New York and New Jersey  shall  notify
    24  the  legislative  bill  drafting  commission  upon the occurrence of the

     1  enactment by the state of New Jersey of the legislation provided for  in
     2  section  one  of  this  act in order that the commission may maintain an

     3  accurate and timely effective data base of the official text of the laws
     4  of  the  state of New York in furtherance of effectuating the provisions
     5  of section 44 of the legislative law and  section  70-b  of  the  public
     6  officers law.
