AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to notification of rules
and regulations of correctional facilities concerning visitors
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The correction law is amended by adding a new section 138-a
2 to read as follows:
3 § 138-a. Notification of visitation policies. The commissioner of the
4 department of corrections and community supervision shall establish and
5 maintain on its public website information concerning specific visita-
6 tion rules, regulations, policies and procedures for each correctional
7 facility. Such information shall include, but not be limited to, visit-
8 ing days and hours, length and number of allowable visits, maximum
9 number of people per visit, dress code, guidelines for people with
10 medical and other special needs including physical access and
11 restrictions on medications while in the facility, infant care, and
12 items which are restricted or prohibited by visitors. The commissioner
13 shall regularly update the information provided on the website pursuant
14 to this section in order to ensure that such information is accurate and
15 that visitors are notified of any new or changed rules, regulations,
16 policies and procedures. In addition, the commissioner shall designate a
17 telephone number or numbers that persons may call for information about
18 the visiting rules, regulations, policies and procedures at the various
19 facilities. Such telephone number or numbers shall also be posted on the
20 website.
21 § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
22 have become a law.
