        Introduced  by  Sen. PERALTA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities
 
        AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the  city  of  New  York,  in
          relation  to  requiring  an educational awareness campaign relative to
          the dangers of acting as a pedestrian  while  distracted  by  using  a
          mobile device
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The administrative code of the city of New York is  amended
     2  by adding a new section 19-193 to read as follows:
     3    §  19-193  Pedestrian  while  distracted  by  texting  program. 1. The
     4  commissioner shall develop  an  awareness  campaign  that  will  educate
     5  pedestrians of the dangers of acting as a pedestrian while distracted by
     6  texting,  or  other use of a mobile device.  The campaign shall focus on
     7  educating pedestrians about the dangers of "using a mobile device" while
     8  crossing an intersection and/or "using a mobile device" while being near
     9  or in a street.
    10    2. The department shall develop the campaign and shall have  leave  to
    11  decide how best to carry out the campaign.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
