AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to designating working dogs
as the official state dog
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 90 of the state law, as added by a chapter of the
2 laws of 2015, amending the state law relating to designating service
3 dogs as the official state dog, as proposed in legislative bills numbers
4 A.2756 and S.3856, is amended to read as follows:
5 § 90. State dog. The [service] working dog shall be the official dog
6 of the state. For the purposes of this section, "[Service] working dog"
7 shall [have the same meaning as set forth in section one hundred eight
8 of the agriculture and markets law] mean: (a) a guide dog, a police work
9 dog, a war dog, a hearing dog, a service dog, a working search dog, a
10 therapy dog, or a detection dog as those terms are defined by section
11 one hundred eight of the agriculture and markets law or any dog that has
12 met such definition during its life; or (b) any dog that is trained to
13 herd and/or protect livestock or control bird and/or wildlife popu-
14 lations and is actually or has been used for such purposes.
15 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same
16 manner as a chapter of the laws of 2015, amending the state law relating
17 to designating service dogs as the official state dog, as proposed in
18 legislative bills numbers A.2756 and S.3856, takes effect.
