        Introduced  by Sen. CARLUCCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
 
        AN ACT to establish the infrastructure and functions of a 9-8-8  hotline
          for a suicide prevention hotline in New York state
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The department of public service shall establish a  suicide
     2  prevention  hotline.    The  infrastructure and functions of the hotline
     3  shall (1) provide for 9-8-8 designation, allowing dedicated  access  for
     4  individuals  experiencing  suicidal  thoughts  or  related mental health
     5  episodes and (2) follow  those  established  in  contracts  through  the
     6  National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
     7    § 2. Should additional or expanded capacity be deemed necessary by the
     8  department, the state shall consider contracting with 2-1-1 New York for
     9  the operation of such hotline as established by this act.
    10    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
