        Introduced  by  Sen.  RIVERA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Health -- reported favora-
          bly from said committee, ordered to first and second  report,  amended
          on  second  report, ordered to a third reading, and to be reprinted as
          amended, retaining its place in the order of third reading
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  non-patient  specific
          orders a registered professional nurse may perform
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section  6909  of  the  education  law  is
     2  amended  by  adding four new paragraphs (i), (j), (k) and (l) to read as
     3  follows:
     4    (i) administering electrocardiogram tests to detect signs and symptoms
     5  of acute coronary syndrome.
     6    (j) administering point-of-care blood glucose tests to evaluate  acute
     7  mental status changes in persons with suspected hypoglycemia.
     8    (k)  administering  tests  and  intravenous lines to persons that meet
     9  severe sepsis and septic shock criteria.
    10    (l) administering tests to determine pregnancy.
    11    § 2. Subdivision 6 of section 6527 of the education law is amended  by
    12  adding four new paragraphs (i), (j), (k) and (l) to read as follows:
    13    (i) administering electrocardiogram tests to detect signs and symptoms
    14  of acute coronary syndrome.
    15    (j)  administering point-of-care blood glucose tests to evaluate acute
    16  mental status changes in persons with suspected hypoglycemia.
    17    (k) administering tests and intravenous lines  to  persons  that  meet
    18  severe sepsis and septic shock criteria.
    19    (l) administering tests to determine pregnancy.
    20    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
