        Introduced  by  Sen. LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education
 
        AN ACT in relation to certain candidates for an initial teaching certif-
          icate
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 

     1    Section  1. If a candidate for a certificate in the classroom teaching
     2  service applies for and meets all the requirements for an initial teach-
     3  ing certificate by August 31, 2014, except that such candidate  did  not
     4  receive  a satisfactory passing score on the teacher performance assess-
     5  ment on the first attempt, if  the  teacher  performance  assessment  is
     6  required  for  the  certificate title sought, such candidate may instead
     7  receive a satisfactory level of performance on the elementary or second-
     8  ary written assessment of teaching  skills  examination  in  lieu  of  a
     9  satisfactory  level of performance on the teacher performance assessment
    10  (edTPA).
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and  shall  be  deemed  to
    12  have been in full force and effect on and after May 1, 2014.
