        Introduced  by Sen. CARLUCCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law,  in  relation  to  requiring  certain
          persons receive mental health training each year
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 804 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 8-a to read as follows:
     3    8-a. All holders of a professional certificate in the classroom teach-
     4  ing service, holders of a level III teaching assistant  certificate  and
     5  holders  of  a  professional  certificate  in the educational leadership
     6  service pursuant to paragraph (a) of subdivision two  of  section  three
     7  thousand six-a of this chapter shall receive a minimum of three hours of
     8  training  in  mental  health per year. The instructional content of such
     9  training shall be consistent with mental  health  curriculum  guidelines
    10  established by the commissioner pursuant to this section.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
