        Introduced  by  Sen. ADDABBO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring that  public
          and nonpublic schools be locked during the school day
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 57 to read as follows:
     3    57. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to  the  contrary,  the
     4  commissioner shall require that every entrance from the street, passage-
     5  way,  courtyard,  cellar, or similar entrance to any public or nonpublic
     6  school in this state, shall be locked at all  times  during  the  school
     7  day.
     8    §  2.  This  act shall take effect immediately. Effective immediately,
     9  the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or  regulation  neces-
    10  sary  for  the  implementation  of  this  act  on its effective date are
    11  authorized to be made and completed on or before such date.
