        Introduced  by  Sen.  MAYER  -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring the  regents
          of  the  university  of the state of New York to make available to all
          public and private schools in the state materials and pacing guides to
          aid in the instruction of the Holocaust and other genocides

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 801 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 6 to read as follows:
     3    6. Subject to the availability of funds, the regents shall make avail-
     4  able to all public and private schools in the state materials and pacing
     5  guides  to  aid  in the instruction of pupils in the Holocaust and other
     6  genocides. Such materials shall be age appropriate and shall  be  devel-
     7  oped  according  to  the  needs  and abilities of students at successive
     8  grade levels to provide robust education in alignment with  the  regents
     9  kindergarten through twelfth grade social studies framework. The regents
    10  shall consult Holocaust education centers and museums in developing such
    11  materials  and  pacing guides and shall review and update them as needed
    12  every ten years.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
