        Introduced  by  Sen.  PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern-
          ment Operations
 
        AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to the authority  of  the
          attorney  general  to review incidents where a civilian is killed by a
          police officer
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1. Section 63 of the executive law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 17 to read as follows:
     3    17. Review any incident involving the conduct of a police  officer  in
     4  connection  with  the performance of his or her official duties, wherein
     5  such conduct is alleged to have caused the serious injury or death of  a
     6  civilian,  within  sixty  days  of  the  incident. Upon such review, the
     7  attorney general shall determine  whether  the  incident  being  brought
     8  forth  will  remain within the jurisdiction of the local district attor-
     9  ney's office or be prosecuted under the jurisdiction of a special prose-
    10  cutor appointed by the governor.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
    12  have become a law.
