        Introduced  by  Sen.  COMRIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Consumer Protection
 
        AN ACT to amend the general  business  law,  in  relation  to  requiring
          contractors  and  subcontractors to disclose the existence of property
          and casualty insurance

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 771 of the general business law is
     2  amended by adding a new paragraph (i) to read as follows:
     3    (i)  Before  a contractor or subcontractor begins work on a home, such
     4  writing shall disclose to the homeowner  the  existence  of  a  property
     5  and/or  casualty insurance policy that covers the scope of such contrac-
     6  tor or subcontractor's employment should an  insurance  claim  be  filed
     7  resulting  from  losses  arising  from  the  work at such property. Such
     8  disclosure shall also include the contact information of  the  insurance
     9  company  providing  such property and/or casualty insurance, including a
    10  phone number and address.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    12  it shall have become a law.
