AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to a fine for
parked or unattended semitrailers or trailers on streets of a city
with a population of one million or more
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph 2 of subdivision (b) of section 1204 of the vehi-
2 cle and traffic law, as amended by chapter 193 of the laws of 1974, is
3 amended and a new paragraph 3 is added to read as follows:
4 2. In any city with a population of one million or more, whenever any
5 police officer, or any person designated by the commissioner [of traf-
6 fic], finds a semitrailer or trailer without a tractor or towing vehicle
7 attached, parked or unattended on any city street, such officer or
8 person designated by the commissioner [of traffic] is hereby authorized
9 to provide for the removal of such semitrailer or trailer to a garage,
10 automobile pound or other place of safety. The owner or other person
11 lawfully entitled to the possession of such semitrailer or trailer shall
12 be subject to a fine of one thousand dollars.
13 3. If a semitrailer or trailer without a tractor or towing vehicle
14 attached is parked and left unattended while it is connected to a state
15 sanctioned film or television production, the owner or other person
16 lawfully entitled to the possession of such semitrailer or trailer shall
17 not be subject to the one thousand dollar fine as provided in paragraph
18 two of this subdivision.
19 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
