Senate Resolution No. 463

        COMMEMORATING  the 25th Anniversary of the Greater
        Queens Chapter of The Links, Incorporated  on  March
        9, 2021
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the  quality  and  character  of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and  dedicated  efforts  of  those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  25th  Anniversary of the Greater Queens Chapter of The
Links, Incorporated to be celebrated with a  virtual  event  on  Sunday,
March 21, 2021; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During this auspicious occasion, the members of this vital
organization will recognize 25 years of Community Impact, Sisterhood and
Service; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit
corporation, established in 1946; the membership consists of over 15,000
professional women of color in 288 chapters located in  42  states,  the
District  of  Columbia,  the  Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United
Kingdom; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is one of the  nation's  oldest  and  largest  volunteer
service  organizations  of  extraordinary  women  who  are  committed to
enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival  of
African Americans and other persons of African ancestry; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Greater  Queens  Chapter  of The Links was originally
organized as the Queens Nia Club, under the leadership  of  Juliette  A.
Hansen,  and  was  officially chartered as the Greater Queens Chapter of
The Links, Inc. on March 9, 1996; and
 
  WHEREAS, In keeping with The Links, Incorporated mandate to  enhance
the  quality  of life in their community through its volunteer community
service programs, the Greater Queens Chapter has  focused  its  energies
and   commitment   to  follow  the  four  facet  programming  guidelines
established by The Links Incorporated  which  are  National  Trends  and
Services,  The  Arts,  Services  to  Youth  and International Trends and
Services; and
 
  WHEREAS, Some of the  Greater  Queens  Chapter  program  initiatives
include  working  with battered women to restart their lives; adopting a
school in Senegal, Africa; hosting an Annual Health Fair at York College
for the prevention of kidney failure in cooperation with  the  New  York
Kidney Foundation and North Shore LIJ Hospital Center; an adopt-a-school
program  at  Public  School  116,  to  expose  students  to a variety of
educational and cultural events; and supporting the Jamaica  Center  for
Arts and Learning; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  April  of  2009, the Greater Queens Chapter received a
National Trends First Place Award for its annual health fair program and
was recognized for Best Program Practices for our Adopt-A-School program
from The Links, Incorporated; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  members  of  the Greater Queens Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated are influential decision makers and  opinion  leaders;  the
organization  has  attracted many distinguished women who are individual
achievers and have made a difference in their communities and the world;
and
 
  WHEREAS, These distinguished women are business and  civic  leaders,
role models, mentors, and volunteers who work towards a common vision by
engaging like-minded organizations and individuals for partnership; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Under  the  luminous  leadership  of President Paula Brown
Edme, the Greater Queens Chapter  has  contributed  countless  hours  of
community   service   annually,   strengthening  their  communities  and
enhancing the nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance  the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly  have  earned  the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Greater Queens  Chapter  of  The
Links, Incorporated; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Paula Brown Edme, President, Greater  Queens  Chapter  of
The Links, Incorporated.
