Assembly Resolution No. 1055

        CONGRATULATING  Leo  Malone  upon  the occasion of
        celebrating his 100th Birthday
 
  WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge
to  the  increasingly  active  roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a  vital  part  of,  and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens  of  this  great
Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
congratulate Leo Malone upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Leo  Malone,  son of John Edward Malone and Anna Gray, was
born on June 27, 1922; and
 
  WHEREAS, He grew up in a large family  with  numerous  siblings  and
cousins,  always  surrounded  by  good  company at his family's frequent
Sunday dinners; and
 
  WHEREAS, Joining the United States  Army  Air  Corps  in  1942,  Leo
Malone  trained  to  be  an airplane engine mechanic; he went to Stewart
Technical School in New York City to hone his craft, and later worked on
B-17 airplanes; and
 
  WHEREAS, He was stationed at Honington Air Base in England where  he
was  both a mechanic and part of the Salvage Crew; he and his team would
go to crash sites and salvage what they could of a crashed airplane; and
 
  WHEREAS, Leo Malone was honorably discharged on December  23,  1945;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  He  had  earned  the  Marksman  Medal, European Theater of
Operation Medal,  and  the  "Ruptured  Duck"  Medal  for  his  honorable
discharge; and
 
  WHEREAS,  He  married his beloved wife, Alma Laws, on June 21, 1947;
they were married for 58 joy-filled years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Leo  Malone  is  the  father  of  six  cherished  children,
Stanley, Douglas, Timothy, Daniel, Rebecca, and Terri; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Leo  Malone,  with  his  zest  for  life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
 
  WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible  joys
and  sorrows  characteristic  of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
 
  WHEREAS, Leo Malone has enriched  the  lives  of  those  around  him
through  his  joyous and sincere love for others and through the vibrant
charm and infinite wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  intent  of  this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a  remarkable  age  and  who  have
witnessed  and  celebrated  the  innovations, cultural developments, and
awesome achievements of this country  during  the  last  century,  while
themselves  contributing  to  the  growth  and  excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Leo  Malone  upon  the  occasion  of celebrating his 100th
Birthday; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Leo Malone.
