HONORING Jay Lazarony upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Geneseean of the
Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jay Lazarony
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Geneseean of
the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, to be
celebrated at its 50th Annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 12,
2022; and
WHEREAS, Jay Lazarony is receiving this auspicious award for his
demonstrated love for and commitment to Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, Executive Director of the GLOW Workforce Development Board,
Jay Lazarony demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to improving the
lives of others through his work with GLOW with Your Hands and the
Genesee County Youth Bureau; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Jay Lazarony, the GLOW
region's average unemployment rates rank the seventh lowest in New York
State; and
WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, Jay Lazarony has dedicated his life
to serving Genesee County; he served as General Manager and ran the
day-to-day operations at his family-owned restaurant for over 12 years
before transitioning to a career in workforce development in 1991; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Jay Lazarony served as a Behavior
Technician for the Genesee County ARC where he enjoyed assisting clients
with developmental disabilities obtain occupational training and reach
their highest level of independence; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, he joined Genesee County's Job Development Bureau
and served as a Senior Employment and Training Counselor where he was
tasked with leading all youth employment programs and teaching the
Adolescent Vocational Exploration program; and
WHEREAS, With an infectious enthusiasm for mentoring local youth,
this admirable man has served as President of the Genesee County Youth
Bureau, a vital organization which establishes programs to help motivate
young people to develop a sense of responsibility and make a positive
contribution to their communities; and
WHEREAS, Jay Lazarony also co-founded GLOW Works with Your Hands in
2019, a hands-on career exploration event for GLOW region youth,
highlighting high-growth and high-demand careers in agriculture,
advanced manufacturing, food processing, and skilled trades; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary professional and volunteer, Jay Lazarony is
selfless, kind, motivates others and has a great sense of humor; he
truly embodies what is great about Genesee County.; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Jay Lazarony has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Jay Lazarony, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jay Lazarony upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Geneseean of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jay Lazarony.
