- The office of Assemblymember Lavine worked closely with the Ukrainian Americans of Long Island (UALI) to carry out a humanitarian drive to help those affected by Russia’s unjust invasion. The community came together in this effort. There are countless examples of people’s incredible generosity which resulted in literally tons of donated goods being sent to the suffering people of Ukraine. Assemblymember Lavine thanks everyone who did what they could to make this effort such a tremendous success. Volodymyr Tsyalkovsky of the UALI coordinated the process by which goods got from the District Office to Ukraine.
- Karolina Zamecka-Zea (bottom right) helped organize a drive at the Glen Cove YMCA daycare program.
- Plainview resident Barbara Robinson (to right of Assemblymember Lavine), a teacher at PS 139 in Rego Park, wanted to help and to involve her students, so she took it upon herself to organize a drive and personally haul dozens of heavy boxes to the District Office.
- With abortion rights threatened like never before, Assemblymember Lavine speaks at the We’re Not Going Back Rally for Reproductive Rights pro-choice in Mineola. Despite the rain and cold, so many wonderful and passionate voices were heard at this important event. “We must come together to fight for women’s rights – which are human rights,” Lavine said.
- As President of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Jewish Legislators (NAJL), Assemblymember Lavine speaks out about ways we can combat anti-Semitism. Lavine addresses the issue in Albany with members of that group and the American Jewish Committee of Long Island.
- The issue of mental health is at the forefront as a result of the strains we’re all under as part of the pandemic. That’s why Assemblymember Lavine, here with Dr. Nellie Taylor-Walthrust of the North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, felt it was important to participate in the Westbury/New Cassel NAACP / Westbury Union Free School District Mental Health Conference at Westbury High School.
- Assemblymember Lavine addresses the New York Bankers Association (NYBA) in Albany. As Chair of the Judiciary Committee, Lavine encounters quite a number of issues that impact NYBA members. On this occasion, he spoke about a modernized version of New York’s Law of Trusts.
- Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia are extremely difficult for all involved. Assemblymember Lavine visits the non-profit Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center in Westbury. The Center has programs which improve the quality of life for those living with Alzheimer’s and related forms of dementia, and their caregivers.
- The recently passed State Budget has many benefits for Long Islanders. Assemblymember Lavine joins Governor Kathy Hochul at Kennedy Park in Hempstead where she talked about several key components — including funding for education and improvements to our roads.
- With gas prices skyrocketing, Assemblymember Lavine calls on Nassau County Executive Blakeman to do the right thing and cut the county taxes on gas. This follows historic action taken by the State Legislature and Governor to relieve the pain at the pump by suspending State gas taxes and giving County governments the authority to do so as well.
- Addressing the unprecedented challenges facing our students and their families is critical. Assemblymember Lavine joined students, families, and other elected officials at the North Shore Central School District Legislative Action Night at Glenwood Landing Elementary School in Glen Head.
- Assemblymember Lavine meets with Glen Wolther, owner of All Round Foods Bakery Products, Inc., of Westbury, and his team in the cold storage warehouse. The company supports our troops overseas by providing frozen bakery goods. This is especially important as the situation has grown very tense since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- The Glen Cove Police Department is presented with a $250,000 capital grant secured by Assemblymember Lavine. The funding paid for 5 brand new, state-of-the-art Ford Interceptors. Assemblymember Lavine is joined by Chief William Whitton, Assistant Chief Christopher Ortiz, and several members of the Glen Cove Police Department for the presentation.
- Assemblymember Lavine was one of several prominent community leaders to participate as a judge at the Westbury Union Free School District Annual Districtwide Spelling Bee. Kids in grades 4 through 8 competed in the event which took place at Westbury High School.
- Assemblymember Lavine meets the 'POBots' during a visit to Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School to announce a grant to fund the school’s robotics program.
- Assemblymember Lavine attends the Glen Cove Council of PTA's Scholarship Dinner to honor Monica Alexandris-Miller who was sadly lost to her family and our community way too young. Monica is remembered as a fighter with a passion for justice who served with great distinction and honor on the Board of Education.
