As the ‘Godmother of the Disability Movement,’ Vicki [Schneps] has long advocated for better treatment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in state facilities. She began her advocacy as a heroic mother, when she discovered the abuse and neglect her child and many others faced at Willowbrook. Vicki filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all the victims, leading to Willowbrook’s long overdue closure.
