"I am thrilled to open my summer reading challenge, with this year's theme being 'Color Our World'," said Assemblyman Morinello. "Reading is a powerful tool that allows us to explore new worlds, learn about different cultures, and expand our knowledge without ever leaving our homes or libraries. It's about opening your mind and expanding your vocabulary."

The "Color Our World" theme invites young readers to discover the vastness and diversity of our planet and beyond. Participants are encouraged to delve into stories that transport them to different countries, explore various planets, and learn about the myriad facets of our world.

To successfully complete the challenge and earn a prestigious New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate, students are asked to read for at least 15 minutes each day for a minimum of 40 days during July and August 2025.

"Those who complete the program will not only receive a certificate, but there's an extra special incentive," Assemblyman Morinello added. "If you and nine of your classmates [at your school] complete the challenge, I will personally bring pizza to celebrate your victory!"

Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is now open. Upon registration, parents will receive an official Summer Reading Challenge Tracker via email to conveniently track their child's reading progress. These can be easily printed at home for self-use.

The challenge officially begins on July 1, 2025, and concludes on August 31, 2025. Parents of students who successfully complete the program will receive a submission link via email during the summer to ensure their child receives their New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate during the 2025-2026 school year.

Assemblyman Morinello emphasized the vital role of local libraries in fostering a love for reading. "Our local libraries are the heart of our community, packed with stories to spark your imagination," he stated. "I encourage everyone to stop by, pick up a free library card, and dive into a world of books."

"Let's get reading and make this summer burst with color!" Assemblyman Morinello concluded.
